
#Iconic Genesis for Pop 2 in 1973

On january 10th 1973, Genesis performed at Le Bataclan and (luckily !) their performance was recorded by Pop 2 TV show ! A piece of history, a rare gem that captures the essence of the band in its early days, Peter Gabriel, who has just resurfaced in a 4k remastered version by the Genesis Museum…
As a part of the tour to promote their new album “Foxtrot “, Genesis – then composed by Peter Gabriel on vocals, Tony Banks on keyboards, Mike Rutherford on bass, Steve Hackett on guitar and of corse Phil Collins on drums – perfoms at the bataclan in front of Pop 2 cameras, iconic music show of the time presented by Patrice Blanc Francart.

At the time, Genesis was well known for its whimsical gigs, wich were not limited to live music, but wich became visual shows, carried by Peter Gabriel’s stage character, made of extravagant costume and scary make-up. The live performance at the Bataclan is not lacking in theatricality and takes us into the dreamlike world of Genesis, with progressive rock, soaring melodies, mysterious poetry and surrealist make-up…

During this 30 minutes recording, we can hear emblematic works of progressive rock such as The Musical Box, Supper’s Ready, The Return Of The Giant Hogweed and The Knife, as well as a short interview in the dressing rooms of Le Bataclan, by Lain Dister, where they evoke their musical influences and their live staging.
About the spectacular restoration of the concert, The Genesis Museum teams said :
It was a huge project. Not that the soudtrack was bad, the soundtrack was actually really good. However, it had many anomalies, but there was enough flexibility to do something much better […].
