HOMMAGE A WARDA
The Mazzika Ensemble and Ranine Chaar will pay tribute to the great singer Warda Al Jazairia (1940-2012), the last legend of a sumptuous era.
Born in Paris to an Algerian father and a Lebanese mother, the future diva cultivated a particular sensitivity for oriental music from childhood. She made a name for herself at a very young age in the classical style, notably by covering songs by the greatest artists of the 1950s, such as Oum Kalthoum or Mohamed Abdelwahab.
After a difficult start to her career in the 1960s due to her first marriage, she moved to Egypt in 1972 to devote herself definitively to her passion. It was there that she met Baligh Hamdi, a genius composer, with whom she formed an outstanding duo. With him, Warda sings her most beautiful songs and really knows the consecration. Halfway between tarab and pop, their melodies arrive like a breath of fresh air to an Arab audience waiting for renewal.
During this tribute evening, the Ensemble will revisit the greatest titles of Warda’s repertoire.
