We could talk about a “new R&B sensation”, except that Mahalia has already been in this business for ages.
She wrote her very first song at the age of 8. At the age of 12, with her guitar under her arm, she began playing in public at “open mic” parties in Leicester, the city where she grew up. Barely a year later, she signed on the Atlantic label. The preteen has now become a 20-year-old woman who handles R&B and soul with an expert hand. This English girl has released an album (which should have a sequel this year) and several EPs (including “Seasons”, in 2018). Singer, composer, but also actress (in the film Brotherhood), Mahalia collaborated with Little Simz and Rudimental and opened for British stars such as Jorja Smith and Ed Sheeran.
