Squeeze are a British pop institution, a duo of melodic storytellers capable of transforming simple tales of everyday life into songs of great finesse. Formed in London in 1974 by Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, the band has established a style that is at once elegant, accessible and intelligent, straddling new wave, power pop and pop rock. We love them!
Their music is characterised in particular by finely crafted melodies and narrative lyrics that are often full of humour but also tinged with melancholy: over the decades, Difford and Tilbrook have developed a songwriting chemistry that is at times reminiscent of the legendary Lennon/McCartney duo (no less!).
Seeing Squeeze live is to experience a skilful blend of nostalgia and vitality. Despite several periods of inactivity, their return to the stage, year after year, is always warmly received: the brilliance lies not only in their new hits, but in the way they continue to play with their legacy, never content merely to revisit classics, but always moving forward. They love to tease and pique their fans’ curiosity.
Today, the band is in the midst of a renaissance: they are preparing the release of a very special album, “Trixies”, comprising songs written in their very early days, when they were just 16 and 19 years old, and which were never actually released at the time. This approach proves once again that Squeeze are delving into their roots to create something new, whilst honouring their history.
In short, Squeeze embodies a dual dimension: pop sophistication and the authenticity of a band rooted in its past yet always ready to explore new horizons! A true bridge between the 1970s and 1980s and the present day, between classic melody and a narrative spirit.
Squeeze is far from finished shaking up the rock scene! A soundscape that is both elegant and energetic, set to continue making a lasting impression and bringing concert venues to life!
